Heaven Bound...

Sara's final test to check for blood flow to the brain was completed around 11:00am this morning. The results came back and there was no blood flow. Soon thereafter, the doctor declared Sara as brain dead.

After some discussions with the Organ Donation Team, Sara was only able to donate her eyes. Based on her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, her heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver were unable to be donated. Sara would have wanted to continue giving and I WANTED SOMEONE TO HAVE HER HEART!!!

After we had our time with Sara this afternoon, the doctors came in and removed the ventilator. The entire family was with Sara until her heart stopped beating.

The reality of the situation has yet to sink in, but Sara is now with Jesus and for this I am thankful...and at peace! I will miss my best friend and am sorry that Chloe will not be able to know her mother, but Sara's legacy will live on through our MANY happy memories with her. Chloe will know her mother through the impact Sara had on so many lives. She was an AMAZING WOMAN who touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with!

Thank you to those of you who have been praying for us. It is completely clear to me that the Lord was calling Sara home at this time. No matter what her diagnosis had been, it was her time to go. She delivered our miracle baby and we spent a few days at home as a family. I have never seen Sara happier, and I feel as though those few days were like heaven on earth.

Memorial services will be held this weekend in Houston. Once details finalize, they will be published on the blog.

Once again, THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS FOR OUR FAMILY.

I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. --Psalm 121:1-2

I think it is important that I tell you the way that I found your blog. Lyssa was a friend of your wife's. Nathan is Lyssa's cousin. I am Nathans fiance. We just brought a happy baby girl into this world in April. She is our world. And I have no doubt that Chloe will become your world. That will give you strength. Everyday you wake up and remember, think about your baby girl. If it helps, keep a baby toy of hers with you, in your car, at your work, whatever. But no matter what happens, you will always have that connection to your loving wife. Ad one day that will be enough. And more.

Brady, I'm so terribly saddened for your loss. As a mother, I weep for Chloe because she won't have her Mommy in the flesh, but I know Sara lives on within her. And as a wife I weep for you because the love and companionship of a spouse, especially when you're TRULY one as you and Sara clearly were, is irreplaceable. I'm glad that Sara, Chloe and you had a few days together as a family and that you were able to capture precious memories. My favorite picture of Sara and Chloe is the one under the "Life is Good" post with Sara's eyes closed and Chloe's open...so very tender. I can tell that Sara simply adored your beautiful daughter. And every word you've spoken of Sara demonstrates how very deeply you loved her; she was so blessed.

I will be praying for you for many years to come. I hope you'll maintain your blog so I can follow your journey. I believe God has great things in store for Chloe and you. Brady, may God bless you and Chloe, and God bless your families during this sad time and forever more.

I am so sorry for your loss. Sara is at peace in the loving arms of our Lord. I will never understand why someone so young and vibrant and full of life was taken from you and Chloe so soon. But I do believe that God has a plan, and that he needed to bring her home to be with him. God bless you and your daughter and the rest of your family during this difficult time, and you will all remain in my prayers.

I knew Sara through my niece Jennifer Haskins Rodriguez. I hosted a weekend pool party for the cheerleaders their senior year. A time I will never forget. Especially my rollerblading adventure with Sara! I am so glad that I have that memory. I read your entire blog this morning, you guys are such an inspiration to me. I know that you have touched so many lifes through this amazing journey that you have been on and will continue to touch many more. I prayed for a miracle but God must have something bigger and better in store. I know that all of you will have a great void in your lifes without Sara. I will pray for God to give you and your family strength to face the days ahead. God bless you

Brady,
I've known Sara since I was 5yrs old. I haven't seen her in many years but her smile is one you can't forget. Through her death so many souls will be saved. She was an inspiration for the "Christian" name. As you are as well..its a beautiful love story that not many people in life are able to experience. I caught myself last night waking up many times just in prayer for her as well this morning. I had a great peace in my heart when she passed on and it was around the time you stated she had. I know that Great woman is with our mighty King who reigns forever! One day we will all see her again. She is not weeping for us bc she is in such a better place than we are. May God keep giving you peace through all this. Look at your sweet miracle every day and see the Lords faithfullness. Our prayers are always with you and Chloe and her family.

The EYES are the "window to the soul"....so much happens there. My husband is an eye doctor -- and we've been on eye care missions where the full-time missionaries have said AMAZING things about eyes...
all have left my thoughts in the moment...but that is unimportant. You and Sarah were sold out to Jesus...and she is there now - with HIM.
I'm praying for you and Chloe...as you grow together...bitter sweet...Chloe WILL know her Mommy.
I am praying for her knowledge of CHRIST early...and that the Spirit of the Lord will fall upon her & He will show her things...fill in the gaps...and comfort her heart like NO one else can. YOU, just be her DADDY...that is so important! God will make up the difference...you don't have to be BOTH...just love her and be JESUS to HER!
Praise God that you and Sarah will be united in GLORY!

Brad, you don't know me, but I'm a friend of Phillip and Danielle Cowart. Danielle has been sending me (and many others) an email every Monday for the past few months asking for prayers for Sara, you and then Chloe, too. We were praying for a miracle, but that was not in His plan. We are hurting for you and your families. What a precious gift you have in Chloe. I know you will cherish every second you have with her! I can tell by the many comments that are posted here that you are loved. And above all else, you are adored by a completely awesome God. My favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11. It gives me comfort when things are looking down. Know that you have so many people praying for you, including me. Much love to you and Chloe.

There is a loss forum on Babycenter that helped me through my most difficult time. I am still friends with most of the ladies on the board until this day. I know you won't see it now but things will get better. You will never stop missing her but the pain does lessen over time. Lots of prayers and hugs to your family.

I am a friend of Matt and Kristi Downing. I have been following you, Sara and Chloe for the past 6 months and you all have been continually in my prayers. My heart is broken for your loss and will continue to pray for you and your sweet baby girl. God has been so gracious to have blessed you with such an amazing wife. I know you will miss her dearly. How good God is to have left you with such an incredible piece of her in your daughter. I pray that she is a source of great joy in your life. I am so thankful that Sara was granted such precious time to enjoy being a mother and for you all to have been a family for that time. May those memories be sweet and sustaining. May the Lord be your strength and your portion. May he protect your heart and guide you through this grief. And as Chloe grows and grieves for her loss as well may He protect her innocence and seal up her heart that it may soft towards Him. I rejoice for Sara that she has finally met the goal we all someday strive for. You are continually in our prayers.

Reading about your journey and seeing the faith you two have had has been an inspiration and so humbling. Sara was so full of life, and touched so many lives. I can't believe she's gone- but you really said it when you said she is home with Jesus now. We will all see her again someday, and I know she will be watching over Chloe. It is still so hard though. We will be praying. PLEASE let us know if you need anything at all. Love, Beth and Matt
